Top 5 New York City Eateries

Food GLORIOUS food, something New York is famous for (amongst many other things). New York is a foodies paradise and trying to narrow down my top eats, to just 5 places, was a serious challenge.  So, if like me, you love pizza, big American breakfasts and some fabulous gourmet dining, this is the post for you!

1. Juliana’s Pizza, Brooklyn

This could potentially be the best pizza I have ever had. Which is quite a bold statement but my god, it was so good! We had to queue for at least an hour, in the scorching heat, but it was so, so worth it. Seriously. There are so many pizza toppings you can choose from, from the plain but deliciously scrumptious margarita to a decadent meat feast, they have it all and more. The dough base is hand stretched to perfection and lightly scorched in the pizza oven. Oh, and one more thing, they are huge! Wow, I really wish I was eating one these right now.

2. Smith and Wollensky

This is a bit of a famous institution in New York. In fact there is another one in Vegas, which is an exact replica of the building and everything! This is your go to place for a good steak, buzzing atmosphere and fabulous wine. The portions here are huge but do not despair, if you over order, as you no doubt will do, they will package it up super nice for you to take home! The side of mac ‘n’ cheese is to die for. Yum.

3. Junior’s Dinner

Lumberjack Breakfast Juniors

There are a few branches of these dotted around New York. I frequented the one just off Times Square. Be warned, this place is packed, even at 8am! But this is for good reason, the breakfasts are incredible (as are the cheesecakes!). From the New York tones of ‘kawfee’ to the ginormous portions, this is as stereotypical New York as it comes but don’t let that put you off, the breakfast menu is extensive, the food delicious and the atmosphere infections. I highly recommend the Lumberjack Breakfast, though maybe have a light meal the night before as it is huge!

4. Shake Shack

Yes, I know, not very original but man, I do love a good shake shack. Get me a black and white milkshake with a chicken burger and some crinkle cut fries and I am yours. Yup, that is all it takes. This is the ultimate fast food destination, cheap, cheerful and full of flavour. They seriously need to open one in Manchester, like, now.

5. The Rainbow Rooms

Unfortunately, the name means this place is sometimes mistaken for a stripclub or some other seedy offering when in fact, it is a fabulous restaurant located on top of the Rockefeller Centre. The view from this restaurant and it’s neighbouring bar are incredible, so incredible in fact that I have included this place in my Top 5 Things to do in New York post. I am slightly obsessed with this place. The service is impeccable, the food delicious (although rather expensive, be prepared for a large check at the end!) and the toilets are like a social gathering reminiscent of getting ready for a girls night out. I just love this place. Highly recommend. (Slight side note though, due to its name, as explained above, some English banks will decline your debit card here, so come prepared with a credit card or cash!)

So there you have it, my top 5 New York eateries. Wow, I am hungry now. If you enjoyed this post, why not check out my top 5 things to do in New York post?

I want to eat at all these places. They all look so good. Although its so funny that English banks think the Rainbow Room is a strip club! Its so common in American pop culture that I think most people over here know what it is.

Yeah it made me laugh, although struggling to pay was rather embarrassing! Luckily my credit card worked in the end!
