Girl Stays At Hotel Neiburgs, Riga

I have never stayed in the number one hotel on TripAdvisor before but along came Riga and Hotel Neiburgs, and that all changed! After spending a considerable amount of time researching hotels in Riga, I eventually settled on Hotel Neiburgs (not number 1 at the time of booking!) as it had really good reviews and a seemingly awesome location, and even more importantly, it wasn’t an extortionate price.

As we pulled up in the taxi along the narrow, cobbled, fairy light lit street, I smiled, I knew I had chosen well with Hotel Neiburgs.

We were greeted by friendly reception staff on arrival at Hotel Neiburgs, and check in was very smooth and quick, with no need for a large (and unnecessary) credit card deposit. We were guided to our room, and although I was feeling rather smug with my choice of hotel already, I was not expecting what was to be found behind the door of our room!

The Room

Our room at Hotel Neiburgs was located on the fourth floor of the hotel, overlooking the street below, with an amazing view of Riga Cathedral. As you first enter, there is a small kitchenette on one side complete with kettle, microwave, fridge, hob and crockery. On the other side there is extensive wardrobe space for storing all your clothes.

From the entrance area you then walk into the lounge, which was furnished with two large, comfy chairs, a table, desk, desk chair, TV and huge full length mirror, you then walk through a set of large, wooden double doors into the bedroom.

The bedroom was furnished with a large and extremely comfy double bed, bedside tables, reading lights and a docking station, again, you could lie in bed and have an awesome view of the clock and spire of Riga Cathedral.

Just off the bedroom was yet another room, this time, the bathroom. It came complete with a large sink, vanity unit, robes, slippers, ample toiletries and an awesome red bath tub with rain shower. The bathroom even had underfloor heating!!

I think it is safe to say, I was rather in love with our room, or rather rooms!

Food and Drink

Our room rate included a buffet breakfast which was served in the hotel’s restaurant (which is also ranked very highly on TripAdvisor).

The breakfast buffet was quite extensive and included entire wheels of brie, a huge selection of fresh fruits, cheeses and cold meats, cereals, breads and pastries, salads and yoghurts. There was also a good selection of fresh juices, including a mixed fruit juice that was my favourite. There were also eggs, both boiled and scrambled, sausages, bacon, cottage cheese pancakes (taste a lot better than they sound) and an A La Carte menu should nothing in the buffet take your fancy.

My only complaint was that the coffee was not the best, although to be fair, this seemed to be a common theme in Riga, so I would maybe stick with tea for your caffeinated morning beverage!

Location

The location could not have been any better, not only was the street the hotel was situated on stunning, but it was literally round the corner from everything. The Cathedral, Town Hall, House of the Blackheads and St Peters Church were all less than 5 minutes walk away. There were also numerous bars and restaurants right on the doorstep. It was just a perfect location for exploring the city.

Facilities

The hotel came complete with a sauna/steam/relaxation room that you could book out and have all to yourself. We spent a very relaxing evening here, warming up after a day exploring Riga in the freezing cold. I was incredibly relaxed after using these facilities and the fact you can use them privately, at no extra charge, was a really nice touch.

There was also a small gym which you could again book to use, although we didn’t make use of this as we had pretty much walked for miles and miles exploring the city! There is also a seating area by reception complete with an extensive collection of books that you can borrow to read.

My Rating

Overall, I loved this hotel and I would recommend it to anyone and everyone who was planning a trip to Riga. The location is perfect, the rooms are stunning and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. I can 100% see why this hotel is now ranked number 1 on TripAdvisor, it is possibly one of the best hotels I have stayed in yet!
